David Barnett's engaging folk horrors are twisting their way through me like old gods through ancient oaks.
His books are so much fun. Easy to read and with fantastic stories that always save juicy twists for the end. The book is set almost at the other end of the country to his other book (Withered Hill) and I know he happens to hale from the same part of the world as me and yet he captures places so well. He seems to understand the spirits that live there. His writing is also fresh and cinematic, gorgeous visuals but always a fast moving plot
There was a tantalising hint at a possible connection between the two books, which may mean there's many more to come.
