When the Stars Go Dark by Paula McLain

4.0

Paula McClain never, ever disappoints me. Her books are worth waiting for. When the Stars Go Dark was an amazing whodunnit (I called it!), placed in a beautiful northern CA town I actually am familiar with. I visited years ago and it remains one of my favorite places. While the site of unthinkable crimes in this novel, I loved being able to picture where our protagonist was. It almost alighted the senses because McClain creates a world vividly already. To be able to place an experience with it makes it all the more real.

The story may be a hard one for mothers who have lost children. Mothers who may have lost their way as well. A beautifully tragic story.

I received an advanced copy of this book, all opinions are my own.
