Enchanters' End Game
by David Eddings
adventurous
challenging
emotional
fast-paced
Quite an underwhelming ending to an otherwise great series. A lot of time spent on the travels of Garion, Silk and Belgarath in the beginning of the book which felt more like page filler than any meaningful addition to the story.
So many things which were building up for a long time were resolved as a matter of fact. The origin of Errand and Barak’s bear could have been fleshed out more. Ce’Nedra’s role in Mallorea was a zero sum game.
Overall, things were wrapped up but could have been done more tactfully. Enjoyed the war preparations and strategy between Rhodar and Fulrach. The series ended with the same complaint that dogged for all 5 books - generalization of people from an entire kingdom. Arendians are stupid. Chereks drink. Thulls are stupid. Nadraks are emancipated. Acknowledgement that people from the same kingdom can have varied thoughts and behaviors would have been nice.
Overall, a great set of young adult books. A nice little palate cleanser to read if one wants to come out of a reading slump.
