Bones to Ashes by Kathy Reichs
3.0
I enjoyed the story, but this is definitely not my favourite Kathy Reichs book. So many details were extremely far-fetched and I actually picked up at least one error. I found it extremely frustrating how Tempe acts foolishly, beyond her qualifications, and unprofessionally.
I personally know a forensic anthropologist. His involvement in a crime investigation is typically this: assist police in searching for remains (if they have not already been recovered), remove/excavate remains, collect evidence, analyze, and submit a report. No chasing after suspects, interrogating, or investigating leads. Sure, I understand the books need to have some excitement and suspense, but it seems like they're getting more and more out of hand. I find non-fiction forensic anthropology books fascinating (eg. Doug Owsley, Doug Ubelaker, Clyde Snow, etc.) without all the drama, just the facts. However I have a background in forensic science and physical anthropology so I may not speak for the genaral reader.
