The Scars That Made Me by Sarah White

emotional reflective fast-paced

3.0

CW: talks of emotional abuse, abandonment, parentification, toxic relationships (romantic & familial)

overall this was ok. some poems were a bit repetitive and may have been better combined with each other and the collection itself being condensed a smidge more. this is a style of poetry im overall a fan of, but I didnt love these as much as I'd hoped. a few definitely hit home for me and if you also have a strained (at best) relationship with any or all of your parents, you may feel the same.

I know im not a poetry expert by any means, but this one definitely has a more beginner feel overall. the author may do better as they hone their style going forward, and I wouldn't be completely against reading more from them at some point in the future. no amanda lovelace or parker lee, but an ok start!

[this book is currently (at the time of this writing) only available self pubbed as a paperback through amazon (in the usa at least), just as a note, if you're wanting to check it out yourself.]
