I really quite enjoyed this. I thought it was a good start to the trilogy.

At first it took me a little bit to really get into the story as I felt like I’d been dumped into the middle of a story and that the wedding should have happened half way through a longer novel. I found myself wishing more time had been spent setting up the characters, their cultures and the conflict between their races. I also wanted to have gotten to know Zorvut more as a character and learn about his home life with his family. Taegan’s past relationship with Kelvhan could also have been expanded on.

In saying all that though, I really loved our main characters. I thought they made a great couple and enjoyed the times they spent getting to know each other.

I also like that there’s no explanation by the author for the homosexuality that seems to be an inherent part of the elves’ culture. It’s such a non issue to all the characters (the same way that heterosexuality has always been to readers) that it feels as though the author is deliberately not beating the reader over the head with an explanation as to why this is part of the story. It just is.

I will note, though, that there were more sex scenes than I thought there would be (some possibly unnecessary). Don’t be fooled by the cover - this is definitely an adult book.

A solid start to the series. I’m looking forward to continuing with book 2.
