This one hooked me from the get-go! It follows Jet, a 27 yo woman who gets attacked in her own home. She has a week to figure out who did it (

pre-existing kidney condition causes aneurysm to grow in her brain

). She works with her childhood best friend Billy and has to uncover a lot of sordid town and family dark secrets. 

Ending:

Jet dies in Billy’s arms after finding the Coleby tool set in his apartment. It was Billy’s dad, Jack Finney/police officer, who killed Jet. Jack had an affair with Jet’s mom and is Luke’s true father. He was trying to get Jet out of the picture so that Luke could inherit his dad’s construction company.
