Ghost Eaters by Clay McLeod Chapman

5.0

This book is definitely going to be one that stays with me. It reminds me of the film ‘Talk to Me’ in terms of both storyline and tone, and I imagine they’d appeal to a similar audience.

Chapman delivers a well-developed plot that gives you pretty much all of the answers and closure you could want. The writing is absolutely magnetic, cutting straight to the chase with no filler; I never felt a moment of boredom while reading. CMC does a great job portraying the desperation and loneliness that go along with addiction, never shying away from all of its ugly sides. The story is compelling with characters that are both piteous and infuriating, and the setting is vivid, gritty and gothic.
