Regarding animal cruelty: there is one scene that could be described as animal cruelty, and it a short quick scene. Spoiler warning to explain the scene -

the author describes living somewhere with pest issues when she found a glue trap with a mouse in it. The scene briefly describes how she kills the mouse. There is not a lot of detail but it did catch me off guard.
