Ms Ice Sandwich by Mieko Kawakami

2.0

This novella was a bite-sized snack between my long reads, making the word 'sandwich' & the cover satisfyingly fitting.

The story is set through the perspective of a young boy who falls in love at first sight and for the first time. The love interest, Ms Ice Sandwich who has electric blue eyelids, is painted magically before his own. He's young with innocence, yet questions about the norms of daily superficial life tug the back of his mind.

I didn't go into this book wanting to overanalyze things, so it was just a simple passing read. Depictions about loss and sadness made it into the story, granting me a good intake of that.
