The Ten Thousand Doors of January
by Alix E. Harrow
The plot sounds pretty great but yet fell short of even being good. I didn’t connect with any of the characters except the dog Bad. I couldn’t root for January because of how annoyingly stupid she was. Any “startling” revelation had to be slapped in her face for her to realize it. If there was a way to fuck up a situation, January did it which had me wanting to scream at the book. Jane was a cool character but by the time I got her back story, I’d already felt a disconnect and just didn’t care anymore but since I was close to finishing I figured I power through. This plot had a lot of potential and I just felt cheated that this book was so lackluster.
