Broken into four sections, this collection of poetry meditates on the author’s memories from childhood into adulthood. It is powerful, moving, and filled with joy, and also pain.
I am by no means a poetry expert or even a regular dabbler. I often feel as if I miss out on the intricacies poetry has to offer, bypassing underlying themes or symbolism. But with simpsons’ work, I never felt that way. I read this in one sitting, engrossed in their writing, immersed in magic. It was beautiful and emotional. The structure and word choices are so delicately deliberate and filled with care.
I am thoroughly impressed by this and cannot wait to read more of their work!
