Thank you to Natalie Wright for providing me with an ARC. All opinions are my own.
If The Season of the Dragon was a gradual widening of the world through Quen’s perspective, then The Spring Dragon is an explosion of cultures, history, and breathtaking scope. This second installment in the Dragos Primeri series takes us beyond the Dynasty and follows Aldewin as he embarks on his own journey—one that starts with a simple mission to protect Nivi and fulfill a promise to Quen but quickly spirals into something far more fated.
We reunite with beloved characters from book one while also gaining a fresh perspective through the eyes of Ishna and the dragon kin. The addition of a dragon's point of view was absolutely stunning, adding an intricate new layer of world-building. Seeing the dragons’ culture, their methods of communication, and even their own romances elevated this story to another level.
The writing remains just as evocative and rich as the first book, bringing every landscape, every moment, and every emotion to life. While the pacing slows in some areas, it always feels purposeful, like a steady build toward something grand. The scale of this story is truly epic—a vast, immersive world that never feels overwhelming but instead invites readers to lose themselves in its depth.
I can’t wait to see where this series goes next. I hope, like many of the great fantasy epics, that we get to remain in this world for a long time, continuing to uncover its secrets, its cultures, and the fates of these unforgettable characters.
