*****SPOILERS***** writing a short summary of the book to jog my memory

Layla and Finn are a couple, but one day goes missing. Finn ends up saying Ellen, Layla’s sister, and proposing. After the proposal, both Ellen and Finn start finding little Russian dolls around. This is significant because we kids Ellen and Layla had Russian dolls and no one besides Ellen, Layla, and Finn knew about this significance. Finn starts getting emails from an account he doesn’t know, the emails say they are from Layla and that she is still alive.

In the end, it turns out that Ellen was Layla all along. Their abusive father violently killed Ellen one day in a drunken rage. Layla saw the murder and essentially went crazy and had mental issues brining herself to the realization that Ellen was dead. After Layla ran away (when everyone thought she was killed or kidnapped), she returned to her dads house because she had nowhere else to go. When she got home her father was ill and mistook Layla as Ellen. Layla decided to cut her hair, change her appearance, and act as Ellen from then on. She went back and started dating Finn as Ellen and turned her life into pretending to be Ellen. She said that Layla voice still snuck into her head and would force her to do things as Layla sometimes though. So, Layla’s voice “snuck into her head” when Finn proposed to Ellen because she wanted Finn to bring her back.

This was a good book but hard to get behind Finn or anyone else not being able to tell Ellen was really Layla. How were their features not different enough to tell? Maybe would’ve been more convincing if they were twins…
