The House of Dead Maids
by Patrick Arrasmith, Clare B. Dunkle
Tabby is taken to Seldom House to become the young maid. Once there she finds the home in ruins and instead becoming a maid, she's interested asked to become the companion for the new master. Something strange is happening at Seldom House. The villagers all watch her when she's outside and inside, Tabby is certain there's another girl in the house. Turns out, there are lots of girls and they're all dead. Because the land and the villagers require the sacrifice of the master and a maid. Tabby is determined not to be the latest sacrifice.
A chilling tale that almost works. While it's chilling, the conclusion, and really the climax, peter out and some of the momentum is lost and just...ends.
