Strictly speaking, this book isn’t bad. But if you’re going to read this and compare it in any way to the show, you will be disappointed.
I wish I could read a period romance where the author takes the radical stance of not making their male love interest a raging misogynist. I KNOW it’s the past, but also let’s just go crazy, be a little silly and not write men who say things like “you’re my wife I own you”. Just a thought.
This book is also, wildly, a rape apologist fantasy. Which is just such a weird choice. I’m giving it one star for the pure reasons that I did READ it and I have in my lifetime read worse books.
