The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas

5.0

This book made me feel all types of things. Another great one. Pls read this.
Edit: as I read more books my mind comes back to this one. It’s hard to put into words because of the reality in is this book compared to reality of life. Really just reality. The realities of racism, police brutality, lack of accountability, poverty and low SES, white privilege, cultural differences, and lack of empathy and understanding... allllll these things. Yet despite it all, the beauty of the strength, family and community unity, and resilience that is also portrayed in this book. My favorite thing about this book, as a whole, is that it cannot be put any more simply to see and understand. If read this and you cannot see how wrong and disrespectful Hailey is, amongst so many other things... like what happened to Khalil, then we cannot be friends. We can disagree on many things and still be friends. Racism isn’t one of them. Anyway.. great book! READ IT!
