I wish the author would have gone into more of Eliza's background.
We went from
Spoiler engaged to a gentleman to fantasying about screwing his cook. A man that she described as not being anyone to look at.
Sure it makes sense after finding out about what happened in France but that is like a good ways away.

Having more background could have explained why is went from being offended at being asked to write a cook book to being passionate about it. Miss Eliza comes out as a Lady who is so desperate to give her life meaning that she jumps from one profession to another.

Towards the end I wanted to slap Miss Eliza. Like madam you aren't that great, simmer down. The pretentiousness of her character made the book almost painful to finish. But that is not why I rated the book poorly. It is because the lack of background into the lives of the two women made a lot of work for the reader.

Also, celery is described as being sweet and woody in taste. Which made me mad because celery tastes like water and salt and no one can tell me otherwise.
