Isla Belthare is plucked from her ordinary life and chooses to embark on a quest with four elemental beings who have recently risen from their slumber. The party must defeat a powerful, yet mysterious adversary, otherwise everything they seek to protect will be destroyed.
I loved this story so much. We get POVs from Isla and each of the four elementals, which I liked for the intimate and vulnerable moments between characters. I would also describe the spice level more like fade-to-black rather than no spice, and there are definitely some swoon worthy moments. I also can’t forget my favorite side character - Bri - she is an AMAZING best friend, and I just love her.
There is a good amount of setup in the beginning, but the payoff is totally worth it. The lore and magic system are fascinating, plus the world-building paints a vivid picture of the unique locations the characters visit.
I loved this book and felt invested in the characters, particularly Isla, as she comes to terms with each plot twist and reveal. This book ends on a crazy cliffhanger, but thank goodness, book 2 releases April 23! If you haven’t picked this one up already, I definitely recommend it!
