What a great book. And it was a real eye opener to see how it was for people, coming out as gay in the not so distant past. You forget how horrible it used to be. The way his mum handled it is just so upsetting. You forget that gay tights were none existent. And we should never forget what the Tory Party did to the gay community with their repulsive section 28. Yes I too detest Margaret Thatcher, I forget that she ruined my life as a kid but she also clearly hated gay people.

And just as powerful, I loved the whole section on favourite foods. What passion for ‘Chuclit’ I totally get it.

Another of the great things about the book is that you can’t help but be happy when you see Matt Lucas big smiley face on the front cover .

Just lovey, from his few words about Kevin which are really heartbreaking. To his dad going to prison, David Walliams, Vic and Bob etc etc. the middle section is really good fun.

It’s really well written too. I love the whole Premise of writing from A to Z.

Little question re page 78. Was this written before we all found out what a monster Jimmy Saville was? It’s incredibly odd to read a book where someone you respect calls him a sweet old man.

I spent the next few pages of the book thinking surely that whole section needs addressing?

It was published in 2017, 5 years afterwards. So, erm I don’t know what to think about that. I understand he liked him at the time but. In hindsight and all.

It doesn’t get addressed. But otherwise this is a great book.
