Sherlock Holmes and The Beast of the Stapletons by James Lovegrove

3.0

I am torn. On the one hand I enjoyed it immensely because Lovegrove gets Watson and Holmes just right and he sure does have a knack for a holmesian atmosphere. But on the other hand I thought that he could have done a better job at creating a challenging mystery. It was pretty obvious who the culprit was and what would be the big revelation at the end. And by obvious I mean the 'It can't be that easy'-kind of obvious, that gets more and more obvious (and annoying) the longer you read. So all in all: Great characters, great atmosphere, but poor mystery.
