A Ruin of Roses by K.F. Breene

2.5/5 ⭐️ for this steamy beauty and the beast tale. I wouldn't have minded how raunchy this was if the plot had been better.
Let's jump right in. I wasn't expecting everyone to be so horny in this book. It starts very much like other beauty and the beast romances, but when she gets to the castle... the first thing she witnesses is a massive orgy. That wasn't necessarily what threw me off, though. It was the excessive raunchy dialogue between the main character, Finley, and everyone else, the butler especially. They talk about sex constantly, which made me think I was in for a wild ride.
Turns out, it wasn't as filthy as I thought it would be. It is very steamy, but Finley doesn't participate in any orgies and there isn't a full pay off of the sexual tension until book 2.
The actual plot with the demon curse and shifters is okay. It didn't keep my attention super well, though. I didn't really care about the sick townspeople. They're an afterthought, but its supposed to be what drives Finley to help break the curse. I knew that with this being a series, the curse wouldn't likely be broken in the first book, but there wasn't really a cliffhanger or exciting ending to book 1.
As for the romance, It's hard to say when Finley actually starts to like Nyfain. It seemed like she hated him one minute and then changed her mind. I'm still not sure how it happened. I did skim some parts, though, so maybe I missed it.
Overall, if you're looking for a spicier ACOTAR, you may really enjoy this. The focus is on the sexual tension, not an interesting plot.
