Hoo boy, I wanted to like this but the longer it went on, the less I enjoyed it. Chapters alternate between a story with our TOS crew and what are basically short stories about Vulcan's past, going back to their prehistoric times. The Vulcan stuff was fun but the TOS story wasn't great.
I mean, frankly Diane Duane did my girl T'Pring dirty, to make her into someone who's still so ridiculously jealous that she's willing to fund a planetary wide conspiracy to get Vulcan to leave the federation?? (A conspiracy which wasn't explained well enough for me besides but maybe it's because I was reading too fast to try and get through this.) The whole treatment of T'Pring's character felt... if not all the way to misogynist then at least the same area code as misogyny. And then the last minute reveal that the gaming computer is sentient, with a little "but that's just between us tho" wink like a sentient computer HASN'T been disastrous on like six different occasions canonically? Come on Diane sheesh
