To Flame a Wild Flower by Sarah A. Parker

2.0

I’m so disappointed in this book.

I loved the first novel - I thought the story was dark, but electrifying. The characters were deeply flawed, but intriguing. The voice that the book was written in was new and gripping. I wanted to keep reading to learn more!

The second novel was good, but not great. At that point, we’d learned more about Orlaith and her background, and finally understood her relationship with the other characters. I could keep up.

The third book is confusing. The author is using the same, unusual tone to present the characters inner thoughts, but it’s disjointed and incomplete, making me more apt to skim than enthrallingly drink in every word. And, the character flaws are old. We know Orlaith is naive - so why does she keep making silly mistake after silly mistake? Shouldn’t she be growing/changing/learning? And the books can’t continue unless Rhy comes back - so how long do we have to wait? How will he come back? These are questions I just want answered, rather than patiently waiting to see the twist the author will take to resolve the conflict.

DNF at 24%. I just couldn’t get back in to it. Saddening, given the grit and novelty of the two previous books.
