The Book of Joy: Lasting Happiness in a Changing World
by Desmond Tutu, Dalai Lama XIV, Douglas Carlton Abrams
2.5 stars.
This isn't a bad book. In fact, I'd agree with most all of the points made in the book. And the Dali Lama and Archbishop are just lovely, lovely, wise men. Patient and kind. Thoughtful.
But the format of the book is so dreadfully tedious. Bless the third-party narrator, Douglas Carlton Abrams' heart. He sounds like a great guy. I'm sure I'd love him in person and that we'd have wonderful conversation. I'm sure it's ME, not these guys. But this read was so dang tedious for me. It literally put me to sleep on more than one occasion.
Still, the book has some good wisdom. I am sure there are people who could really use that wisdom. And it seems like the average reader doesn't find the format nearly as tedious as I did. Seriously, it's me, not them.
