Persuasion by Jane Austen

5.0

I've read every novel that Jane Austen has written. I started when I was in middle school and all finished of them at least once before high school started. I've found, that nearly every year, I find myself re-reading one of her novels. They're such a comfort to me. There is a right Jane Austen novel for every mood and occasion.

Persuasion is the story of dear Anne Elliot, a pretty but not beautiful gal of eight and twenty. Unmarried and resigned to her fate, she lives with her father and two sisters, near to her good friend and confidante Lady Russell. Anne Elliot is nothing if she is not a dutiful daughter who, seven years prior, engaged herself to a man without fortune, but was persuaded to break the engagement by her family and her friend Lady Russell. This is the story of how she sees Frederick Wentworth - now Captain Frederick Wentworth and the events that ensue.

It is so hard to explain to someone why you love Jane Austen. Why wouldn't you love a Jane Austen novel? With such beautiful Victorian prose and proper conversations, it has the ability to take you to a different time. A time that I much favor the current one. You find yourself empathizing greatly with the characters, rooting for them to make it. Elizabeth Bennett may be the most renowned of Austen's characters but Anne Elliot is most like the women you want to become.
