I guess in the long run, this book was actually useful. At first, some pages were annoying to read. Mostly because at times the author felt asshole-ish. Not to mention he’s a white male who obviously has had a different experience from the majority of us. With all of that being said…once I pulled my head out of my own ass, I got a lot out of his words. There were even moments where I had to take a break because my tears were too much. I am a child of curiosity. I crave to know, and strive for more learning about myself, and the world we live in. The authors talk about Resistance, Professionalism, Ego, Self, Territory, and Hierarchy…really turns your perspective around, and makes you think about how you’re approaching life in the creative space and in general.
Quotes that I loved:
“The truly free individual is free only to his own self-mastery. While those who will not govern themselves are condemned to find masters to govern over them”
“The professional is prepared at a deeper level. He is prepared, each day, to confront his own self-sabotage”
“Tomorrow morning the critic will be gone, but the writer will still be there facing the blank page”
