I really wanted to like this a lot more than I actually ended up liking it. The world building is incredible, but sometimes the pilgrim's stories are just so dull and boring, like Kassad's story or the Consul's story.
Hoyt's story is EASILY the best all the way through. That's a 10/10 story. Get rid of all the warbling and filler and romance from the other stories and just the worldbuilding alone and the mystery of the Shrike could make a 10/10 book. Oh well.
Stories ranked best to worst:
The Priest and the Bikura: Lenar Hoyt (10/10)
The Scholar and the Shrike's Curse: Sol Weintraub (8.5/10)
The Detective and the Cybrid: Brawne Lamia (7.5/10)
The Poet and His Muse: Martin Silenus (7/10)
The Consul and Hyperion: The Consul (6/10)
The Colonel and Moneta: Fedmahn Kassad (4/10)
