How do you even begin to review Le Morte d'Arthur? There are way better reviews on this site for this book than I could write so I thought I'd just share my thoughts.

This book is not easy to read. I listened to the audiobook narrated by Bill Homewood and buddyread it with a friend and THANK GOD. I would never have finished it if I hadn't been reading it with someone and had the words read to me. I really struggled through some parts and flew through others. The jousts and tourneys become predictable (smite off horse > steal horse > give to other knight > repeat, or, smite off horse > get out shield > buffet round the head > repeat), the characters are not particularly likeable, they're all very flawed. There is no mention of day to day life, only quests and fights. And while it has been translated into more modern English, it's still difficult to grasp at times.

However, I thoroughly enjoyed myself. This book is so entertaining, and it was nice to see how the origins of some of these stories differed from modern day retellings, and sometimes surprising that the modern retellings were so faithful.

I would not recommend this book unless you're really into Arthurian legends and you're a desperate to read everything King Arthur, but I enjoyed it all the same.
