Ms. Adventure: My Wild Explorations in Science, Lava, and Life by Jess Phoenix

3.0

I decided to pick this book up “in honour” of the current volcanic eruption here in Spain (Canary islands).

Now, I love volcanoes. I really love them. Being a volcanologist is one of my 20 ideal jobs, sometimes I imagine dropping my current lifestyle as an illustrator / travel consultant and running off to study geology (I would’t last a week, but it’s the idea that matters). So really, I feel like I should have been delighted with this book…

In reality, I was underwhelmed. It was fine, it wasn't bad, but there didn't seem to be any coherent narrative to it which made it a little hard to follow at times. After reading [b:Into the Planet|43131602|Into the Planet My Life as a Cave Diver|Jill Heinerth|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1563335080l/43131602._SY75_.jpg|55357537] earlier this year, a very similar book but about cave diving instead, I know this sort of adventure memoir has the potential to be very interesting and thus I had higher expectations for this.

Either way, it's a quick light read and I now enjoy seeing some of my recently acquired knowledge mentioned when I hear the news every day on the Canary Islands volcano.
