The Cornish Cream Tea Bus by Cressida McLaughlin

3.0

Many thanks to Netgalley and Harper Collins for offering this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Charlie has inherited her uncle's vintage double decker bus and has turned it into a traveling cream tea cafe! She and her dog Marmite move to the village of Porthgolow in Cornwall to stay with friends and to give Charlie's fledgling business a go.

The story is mostly predictable and is slow moving in parts, but since it's a comfort/summer read, these aren't faults. Charlie's feistiness did feel a bit forced at times, as did her tendency to jump to conclusions, though. There's love, drama, friendship, locals both for and against Charlie's plans, and pets, not to mention lots of baking going on..

Gertie, the bus, would be a dream come true for me and I found myself drifting off into daydreams about what I could do with my own vintage bus if I were lucky enough to have one. I decided I'd turn it into a personal library and hide it away in a quiet part of our smallholding as my little retreat.

There were several characters I'd love to know more about like the recluse in the yellow cottage. I'd love to read her book!

All in all, a nice comforting story full of warmth, drama, optimism, and interesting characters.
