I did not love this, especially at the beginning. There was too much going on. Another universe, a despotic ruler, a young girl with powers she can't understand, a boy and his brother taken captive by the despotic ruler, two sworn enemies falling in love, the "current", people with current gifts, oracles, prophecies, you get the idea.
About halfway through, I started liking it more, and of course, I knew going in it was part of a series, so cue the cliffhanger ending.
Overall? Meh. Not an awful read, but not great either.
