The Franchise Affair by Josephine Tey
2.0
Detective: not really
Puzzle: none
Characters: unearned. We're supposed to feel sympathetic towards the old ladies because they're old and need to cook for themselves. Obviously the fifteen year old is a lying sexual deviant because she has blue eyes. Cool cool cool.
85% of this book consisted of a non-detective looking for clues to a half mystery. He somehow knows the answer to said "mystery" with all of the evidence he cannot find. The last 15% is all of the evidence knocking at his door + a trial that plays out what he knew all along.
