Hard Hit by J.B. Turner

4.0

I won this kindle e-book version in a Goodreads giveaway. While this book is the sixth in the series it worked as a standalone. This well-written story takes place in New York and starts when Jon Reznick's daughter is run over by a hit-and-run driver while she is in a crosswalk. With this start, the story is off and running. Jon is former military and occasionally a consultant for the FBI. The plot focuses on Jon dealing with his daughter's medical condition as well as finding out who hit her and ensuring they are punished.

There was definitely character development in this story as Jon learns more about himself, his daughter, and the person who hit her. The supporting characters are compassionate. but sometimes I was frustrated with Jon. I don't want to say a lot more due to spoilers, but this thriller covers everything from grief to politics, diplomats, drugs, prostitution, anger, frustration, murder, and so much more.

I was emotionally involved in the first chapter and the fast-paced action did not let up throughout most of the book. I need to read the first five books in the series.
