I’m a HUGE Beth O’Leary fan and this was my most anticipated new releases of the year. I’ve been so excited! Unfortunately, it was a bit of a let down.
I LOVED the first 295 pages of this book. Like devoured them, loved them, felt like it was such an ambitious novel and one that was so different from her others with such high stakes and stressful moments. What happened then? At the 295/296 page mark, there is a direction the book goes that just made me really pause and say, “REALLY?! After all that, this is the “twist” ending we are going with?! REALLY?!” I was so disappointed. I really felt like it was a huge departure from the rest of the book. It changed the vibes and the direction it was going and I don’t feel like it was handled well nor was it redeemed by the end of the book. I know some people will feel like it was resolved by the end but something about it just keeps nagging me. I really hated those last 70ish pages and truly wish the book had ended on page 295. I don’t know. Maybe I’m being harsh?
I feel like a reread is necessary to make sure that I’m not just being emotional in the moment.
