The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson
3.0
“If I am the chief of sinners, I am the chief of sufferers also.”
3 stars. This is another one of those classics that I should've gotten to a long time ago but never did. I will admit to being absolute trash for the broadway show Jekyll & Hyde so much so that I sung one of the songs ("Someone Like You") for one of my final performances back in college. I adore the hell out of that show and it's not even that good. It's still one of my favorites though. Don't ask me why cause I don't know.
I digress, the entire plot and idea of Jekyll and Hyde has always interested me and I'm glad that I'm getting more into classics because I think this would've still been unread otherwise. It's a very quick read, my edition was only 61 pages and the writing is very easy to follow. The atmosphere and the mood of this story was spectacular and I will say that the beginning chapter hooked me in from the start. It really sets up the tone. The story feels rushed though and the character of Jekyll/Hyde feels underwhelming here in comparison of different adaptations that I've seen. I was honestly expecting a lot more in regards to the characters but for what it is, it's not terrible.
