The Muse
by Jessie Burton
i absolutely loved this story, but the heart of it was very, very frustrating to me and i can't quite get to the point i believe the author wanted me to get to. there are some injustices i can't really reconcile and one of those is misattributed art, and there's just no way to resolve that in a satisfying way for me besides "everyone is set straight and that's talked about thoroughly". there just wasn't enough of that for me. but frustrations aside, odette's journey as a writer was beautiful and measured and made a perfect sense to me that not many books about writers achieve. when this book avoided too much melodrama, it was spectacular.
