This one was a bit hard to get through. I can understand the use of current/modern language in a fantasy book. It's a writing choice that can be enjoyed, but this book's use creates moments of cringe that take you completely out of the storyline.
Also, there is a moment in the book where a side character speaks French and it made me say "huh?" out loud to an empty room. This isn't just using 'champagne' in a fantasy book to describe a bubbly alcohol when France doesn't exist in this realm, this is using a language that doesn't exist as dialogue and it hurt to read.
I love Nadir. He is so tortured and in love and layered. He's really out here trying and taking the blame for everything; but boy did Lor annoy me this book. Her constant back and forth of being too emotional but then immediately realizing she was in the wrong just became exhausting. Be self aware enough to rein it in or stick to your guns girl.

I will read the next book in the hopes that it makes me it enjoy it more, like the 1st book. I'm really holding out for Nadir's happy ending here.
