The Oysterville Sewing Circle by Susan Wiggs

3.0

Another heart warming story of women learning to find their voice and fight against oppression and abuse (sexual, emotional, physical etc). There a lot of storylines that show all the effects and after effects of abuse, but that there is hope and help still. I loved how the protagonist struggles against her own grief and starts a woman's support group for those abused or close to someone who has been abused. She really matures as a character and I love the interactions with the children who she is the guardian for after their mother dies due to a drug overdose and signs of abuse. What I didn't enjoy as much was the love triangle and Prince Charming figure in her life. It seemed awkward and then circumstances a little too perfect to set up for a nice little conclusion. However it was a good read and I was captivated by what would happen with the children and the sisterhood/ support group the Oysterville Sewing Circle. It would make for a great book club read and discussion.

Warning: quite a bit of swearing including one starting with "f--"; mature subjects such as sexual assault and domestic violence
