The Outside Circle

This was a tough graphic novel to read at times, but an important story to read. It has statistics mixed in with a powerful story of one man (and family's) experience around gang involvement, poverty, and trauma - but also part of the journey through it. In reading the author blurb, she is the director of research at the Native Counseling Services of Alberta, so the way the main character moves through the story makes sense. I love to see him finding his community and seeing that community help him navigate his experience! While these are all intricate and heavy topics, I personally did not feel like the story was too bogged down or preachy in any way (which I've seen in some other reviews). This is a good one to pick up!
Moderate: Violence
Minor: Drug abuse
