Alright, this was good, but definitely no Birthday Girl. I'm a sucker for age-gap romances, so I was easily convinced to read this book, especially after people compared it to Birthday Girl. I enjoyed the story, like the characters, but it just didn't have the bang that Birthday Girl did.

I'm pretty sure this was my first true kinky book and I'm still trying to figure out whether I like it or not hahaha. The whole sub-dom idea isn't really my thing and mild degradation isn't really up my alley. Some of those parts were hard to read at some points if I'm being honest.

I did love the characters and was honestly pleasantly surprised by how cute it was too. I think I would've absolutely fallen in love with this book if it didn't have all the kinks/bdsm - Personally, I just don't find it enjoyable to read about. But, Emerson and Charlie's story made up for this which is why I ended up rating this 4 stars.

Another reason for rating it 4 stars is the writing style!!!!! LOVED IT. It's a dual POV between Charlie and Emerson and each chapter name is a new rule. I thought it was SO creative and it made me finish this book so quickly because I was so intrigued. For example: Chapter 9 is "Rule #9: Avoid malls for the risk of running into your ex while holding bags of lingerie you fantasize wearing for his dad"

I listened to this book as an audiobook *highly recommend* and it had me smiling and giggling like a child. Somehow I can keep a straight face when I'm reading physical books, but not when I'm hearing someone actually say the words out loud. No regrets though ;)

And yes, I am no currently reading the second book, but I'm 99% sure I'll end the series there. A step-siblings romance should be interesting, but the other books in the series don't appeal to be at all haha. I need to go back to some vanilla smut books after this...
