The Maidens: A Novel by Alex Michaelides

3.0

It's been a while since I read a book so quickly! I've been zooming out when reading quite often lately, even books I've absolutely loved.
The story caught my attention almost immediately. Although at the beginning I wasn't sure where would this lead me, I was curious to know more. Everything became more interesting when, Mariana, the protagonist, travels to the campus of Cambridge University, where a gruesome discovery was made.
Mariana is a group therapist who has recently lost her husband. One day, Zoe, her niece, calls her to tell her terrible news: there's been a murder near the campus and her best friend is missing. Mariana feels like there's something else Zoe isn't telling her. She seems scared, so Mariana goes to visit her niece.
Once in the campus, Mariana meets popular and charismatic professor Fosca who has a peculiar group of students called "The Maidens". Mariana is suspicious of professor Fosca and will try to prove he's guilty.
Overall, I really enjoyed this book, even though it wasn't what I was expecting. If you want to read a fast paced story, with interesting twists, this might be a good option.
