The Inner Life of Animals
by Peter Wohlleben
Ugh.
I expected better from this author.
gentle reminder that scientists can believe animals have emotions and not have to lean this far to the side. Animal emotion is not a black or white area, as this author implies. He ignores all the interesting complexity for the usual boring “maybe ticks and birds and slime molds are NOT SO DIFFERENT FROM US” garbage.
Take someone who knows some stuff about science. Have them explain science to a general audience. Have them put words in scientists’ mouths, act as if all scientists have the same thoughts and opinions, give them strawman arguments, completely miss the point of many studies and reasons why scientists do certain things the way they do. Make lots of logical leaps and be very lazy about it. “Ticks must have emotions because otherwise why do they only eat when their stomachs are empty?” What kind of BS logic is that???
Add lots of boring anecdotal stories.
Yay, you have your usual best seller book about animal emotions. Written by an unqualified guy who should stick to writing about trees.
