Your Deepest Fear by David Jackson

3.0

Excellently read audio book by Jonathan Keeble, however, how long is the over-used James Moriarty - criminal mastermind trope going to be around? Everything Cody does has been foreseen by Waldo, Jackson's criminal mastermind-cleverly done, but it's so contrived. No inkling is given as to why Detective Cody has been singled out for this treatment- it's a big hole in the plot that the leaves me, the reader, wondering why am I reading this at all- to buy the next instalment when all will be revealed? Jackson, however, neatly brings two main plots together and has created a wonderful new female character, along the lines of Lisbeth Salandar of dragon tattoo fame. Jackson's prior novels, at least had crimes that were solved. Note: Danish writer Jussi Adler-Olsen has already covered the concept/theme of "Your Deepest Fear", in his Department Q series.
