What If You & Me by Roni Loren

4.0

I flew through this one! Honestly wish there were 50-100 more pages. I love how this one incorporated horror movies while the first book had romance movies. I’m excited to see what genre the next book will include. I love Andi and Hill. Really great characters with some tragedy in their pasts. I loved Andi in Hollyn’s book and I’m so glad I love her even more in her own book. She’s strong, brave, witty, and so funny. Hill is a big, gentle sweetheart. I should have been taking notes from Chef Hill. Seriously love how Roni Loren fully develops her characters. They have pasts, flaws, dreams, passions. And they communicate with each other! I don’t know why authors insist on using the miscommunication trope! It makes me so mad and doesn’t add to the story at all! It’s so frustrating. Especially when we know they’re going to end up together because this is the romance genre! It doesn’t really bode well that the couple is going to last or that they have a healthy relationship when they hide speaking their true feelings to one another. Roni Loren’s books are the example! Her characters don’t shy away from speaking the truth and I love it so much!! Her books haven’t made me cry (yet), but this one also made me tear up. Chapter 24, World on Fire by Sarah McLachlan is mentioned, so I listened to the song and it’s the perfect song for Andi and Hill! Loren weaves a story together so well! It’s just amazing the details she includes and you can tell how well thought out her stories are. I’ve debated giving this 5 stars, but need to think about it some more. It’s really good. And I know I want to reread these books some day and annotate them. I really love the movie aspect of these books. Not just the mention of them, but the discussion around tropes and what can be learned from movies. Andi’s take on some romantic movies is amazing, too! Very, very excited to pick up the next book, which released today!
