This book is a recipe for success. A strong female protagonist? Check. Magic and fantasy elements? Check. The seven deadly sins embodied as seven handsome demon princes of Hell? Check, check, and check.

Honestly, I put off reading Kingdom of the Wicked because it looked so…basic. It’s a YA book, which usually isn’t my cup of tea as the plots become a bit too predictable for me. However, like many other times in my life, Barnes and Noble was having a sale, so I said why not and bit the bullet. Turns out that Kingdom of the Wicked is amazing!

The story revolves around a girl named Emilia, who is a witch living in a small village in Italy with her family and twin sister. Until one day, she finds her twin sister murdered. This sets Emilia on a dark path of revenge and vengeance to find the person who killed her sister. Nothing is off limits, including summoning a prince of hell to help her in the quest.

It’s impossible not to get swept up in the mystery and mythology of this book. The plot is suspenseful and heady, keeping you on the edge of your seat for the majority of the novel. I was so immersed in this book, I finished it in one sitting. I just couldn’t seem to put it down.

For anyone like me who has been on the fence about starting this series, bite the bullet, and dive in, you will not regret it.
