King of Scars by Leigh Bardugo

2.0

MOST DISAPPOINTING BOOK OF 2019

After reading Six of Crows and Crooked Kingdom I was expecting something of better quality and less predictable than this. Six of Crows is one of my favourite books. I'm really sad and disappointed.

I absolutely hate when authors bring back old storylines and recycle characters, I expected to read something new and fresh, not the same old thing again... I feel that Leigh Bardugo really wanted to write about Nikolai and she didn't really give much thought to the actual story, I can actually sum up this novel in three sentences, there is no progress, no character development... I felt like I was reading Shadow and Bone all over again.

I didn't care about Nina's storyline at all, it felt detached from the rest of the book, it's a completely different plot that interrupts the main storyline over and over again. You can actually read her chapters after reading the novel or even before, it doesn't matter, it adds nothing to Nikolai's plot.

The magic system is just confusing, I don't understand how it works or the rules, if there are any. A lot of things felt very forced and the author didn't make any character shine, not even Nikolai.

The ending was just a joke

SPOILER

The Darkling again...seriously?
