The Light Through the Leaves
by Glendy Vanderah
2.5 stars. In the end, I came to the realization that the story could be interpreted as revolving around an innocent child, an evil witch, spells, a fallen mother, a fairy godmother, a white knight, and a silent stoic helper. While several of these characters are intriguing, they lack depth and character development.
I am disappointed when an author promises a gritty realistic novel but instead delivers a fairytale for adults with a predictable and clichéd ending, reminiscent of Hallmark movies.
