Sea of Ruin by Pam Godwin

MFM, dark historical romance, pirates, second chance, enemies to lovers, standalone, ebook  - lots of TWs

I think I went into this book with too high expectations. I knew I would be getting an angst filled love triangle, violence and dub/non-con, dark historical romance, but I really expected more to the story. I wish there was more pirating and plundering. We barely got to see the FMC command her ship or be a badass pirate. She spent the majority of the novel as a prisoner, tortured or in recovery from said torture. The second chance relationship with the one MMC didn’t have enough on page history to make it seem as authentic and passionate as I think it intended to be. The relationship with the second MMC was largely physical and the MMC was so stoic and cold, it was hard to get a read on why he desired the FMC enough to give up his entire life for her. And most disappointing of all was the relationship between the two MMCs, which was mostly all off page and not shown at all. It just fell flat and felt shoehorned in. Basically, I wanted way more pirating, less torture, and more on page relationship building/banter/discourse.
