Escaping from Houdini by Kerri Maniscalco
5.0

“To truly end a murderer, I’d need to become one.”

As always, it’s a great time whenever I get to read a book with the sassy yet sweet pair of Audrey Rose and Thomas. I would ramble about the writing or the scenery (a cruise liner with a nightly dark circus; is that appealing or what?) but if you’re reading this review, you probably already have a clue about those two aspects of this series being completely superb.

“Ah, yes, but you cannot forget nightmares often begin as dreams.”

Due to classes and extracurriculars keeping me on my toes, it took me a lifetime and a half to find time to finish this literary treasure. Most of this harrowing adventure was read between the hours of 11pm and 1am. Trust me, that’s a testament to the author’s skill. Sleep and I are bed buddies: I give up sleep very rarely for a book. This one earned it.

“Hope is an invisible yet mighty force. Don’t dismiss it’s power.”

For spoilers' sake, I won’t say too much on the plot other than it is everything you’re hoping it will be and more. I love the dark circus troupe and the way Thomas and Audrey handle it is hysterical. I’m genuinely convinced Thomas and Audrey’s witty quips could force a profession mime to break character. Not only do I ship them with every fiber in my being, but I adore that their relationship is built on a strong and sturdy friendship as well. I don't want to acknowledge that there's only one book left in this series. Denial is healthy, right?

Looking for a way to put off that next big test, project, or paper this semester? Well, you’ve found it. Escaping From Houdini will keep you engaged and invested from start to finish with a dazzling sideshow of budding romance, murder boats, and of course, the actual sideshow circus. The perfect tool of total procrastination. :)

"What a fortunate surprise, Miss Wadsworth." He took my hand in his, pretending to kiss it, and pulled an ink-blue rose from the air. "A rose for the lovely Audrey Rose."

"Oh, wonderful." Thomas said. "Satan has decided to claw his way out of Hell and join us. I had no idea he did subpar tricks, though."
